The area has a triangular shape, bounded on the south side by the Pyrenees and on the west side from Royan till Biarritz by the Bay of Biscay. The versatile region consists of the departments of Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde, Landes and Pyrenées Atlantiques, each of which has its own unique look and appeal. The dramatic peaks of the Pyrenees, the green sea of pine trees in Les Landes, the river valleys and bastide villages in the Lot-et-Garonne, the prehistoric caves in the Dordogne and the vineyards of the Gironde.
The city of Bordeaux is centrally located, which is strongly reminiscent of a small variant of Paris. Speaking of Bordeaux, if you like a wine, this region is a true ‘Walhalla’. The world’s best wines have their origin here: Mouton Rothschild, Pomerol, Château Lafite and so on.
